Earth Week 2014 Photo Contest
Students for Sustainability and the Office of Sustainability held a photo contest during the weeks prior to Earth Day, April 22nd. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni submitted photos that represented sustainability at St. Edward’s. This contest sought to combine the creative and sustainable sides of St. Ed’s. Considering the 2014 Earth Week theme, “Our Place in Space: Sustainability, Stewardship and Community,” we hoped to illustrate what our place in space looks like through the lens of a St. Edward’s University community member.
Participants were asked to share their photo(s) and a small caption through Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram using the hash tag #seusustain or via email to Graduate Sustainability Assistant Thomas LaPoint at firstname.lastname@example.org including their name, photo, and a caption. It was requested that photos be submitted by 11:59pm on Monday, April 14th to be eligible for the contest.
Prizes were awarded to the three winners, totaling over $250 in H-E-B gift cards. A voting panel comprised of staff, faculty, and students determined 1st and 2nd places. The People’s Choice award was voted on by Earth Week attendees during the lawn event from 11:00am - 1:15pm on Earth Day.
Submitted photos will be used on the St. Edward’s University Office of Sustainability website as well as other social media outlets. Credits will be given accordingly. The winners were announced at 1:30pm on April 22nd to conclude our Earth Day lawn event.
1st place - $110
2nd place - $80
People’s Choice - $70
Photos were rated on two criteria with equal weight: the photographic quality of the image and the theme of sustainability at St. Edward’s. Participants were asked not rely on the caption to get their message across; the image itself was judged.
