Student Life Excellence Awards

This program is designed to recognize the hard work of organizations and individuals of Recognized Student Organizations during the past year.

Nominees will be invited to a special award reception at the end of the Spring semester, where the winner of each award will be announced.

Organizational Awards include:

Organization of the Year

Presented to the organization that fulfills the following qualities: demonstrates strong officer leadership, is in good standing with the university, is up to date in all organization business, is successful in managing daily operations of the organization, and is in tune with the mission statement of St. Edward's University. Also, the organization should create involvement opportunities for all members interested, sponsor events that are of value to students, as well as take part in other activities and initiatives that contribute to student engagement on campus.

This award will be chosen from the organization category winners.

Organization of the Year - Academic and Professional

Presented to the organization that has demonstrated outstanding abilities in the area of Academic and Professional advancement. These organizations have shown leadership in the area of academic and professional preparation, and commitment to individual development within students' chosen field.

Organization of the Year - Community Service

Presented to the organization that has shown leadership in the area of community service. This organization goes above and beyond reaching out to their community and giving back. The organization must have implemented and completed a variety of community service events on and off the St. Edward's campus.

Organization of the Year - Recreational

Presented to the organization that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to their sport and its players by providing opportunities for athletic development via regular training and practice, dedication to performance, and their fundraising efforts to offset costs. Additionally, this organization will be expert in managing a variety of logistical and risk management concerns inherent in the nature of their sport.

Organization of the Year - Cultural

Presented to the cultural organization that provides students of St. Edward's University an opportunity for cultural exploration and understanding, and/or unites students of common cultural heritages.

Organization of the Year - Honor Society

Presented to the organization that promotes, stimulates, and maintains excellence in advancement of academics. This organization should promote a higher standard of scholarship, honor those achieving such a distinction, and recognize academic excellence and leadership.

Organization of the Year - Political & Social Interest

Presented to the political-interest organization that has distinguished itself in promoting the importance of political and civic involvement. This may be expressed through organized commitment and support of certain issues, raising awareness on issues, and/or hosting events related to the organization's purpose.

Organization of the Year - Special Interest

Presented to the special interest organization that has demonstrated commitment to their purpose and mission through events and activities for members and/or the St. Edward's community by providing an outlet for interests not typically addressed in other organizations.

Organization of the Year - Spiritual

Presented to the organization that provides students of St. Edward's University an opportunity for spiritual exploration, and/or unites students of common spiritual beliefs. This organization should also be in good standing with the university and promote and work by the mission of St. Edward's.

Spirit of St. Edward’s Award

Presented to the organization that has most exemplified the University mission through their programs and services. Specific contributions through fostering personal and professional excellence, forming ethical and informed leaders, developing men and women dedicated to the service of others, and promoting a positive campus culture.

Rising Star Award

Presented to the recognized student organization that has distinguished themselves during their first year of existence on campus OR any recognized organization that has shown remarkable improvement over the past year.

Outstanding Commitment to Service

Presented to the organization that has shown a dedication and commitment to community service through an event, series of events, or long lasting initiative within the St. Edward's community or neighboring communities. The recipient of this award will have incorporated service to the University, Austin community and/or a charitable organization, and will be selected based on overall impact, implementation technique, and participation.

Outstanding Commitment to Social Justice

Presented to the outstanding student organization or program which displays a sincere dedication to social justice issues. The organization or program will be selected based on the overall impact of the program, its ability to affect positive change, and its role in exposing students to issues of power, privilege and oppression. Organization technique, implementation, and collaborative nature of the program will also be taken into consideration in choosing the recipient of this award.

Outstanding Commitment to Multiculturalism and Diversity

Presented to an outstanding student organization or program which displays a sincere dedication to multicultural and diversity issues at St. Edward's. The organization or program will be selected based on the overall impact of the program, its ability to affect positive change, and its role in exposing students to new cultures. Organization technique, implementation, and collaborative nature of the program will also be taken into consideration in choosing the recipient of this award.

Outstanding Commitment to Collaboration

Presented to the organizations or program that demonstrated collaboration by working together from inception to completion on an event or initiative. The recipient will be selected based on overall impact to the university community, the use of each collaborator's strengths and resources, and how the collaboration impacted the collaborating parties.

Outstanding Education Program

Presented to the organization that hosted a program that promoted awareness or education on a particular topic or initiative. The program could have been targeted to a particular St. Edward's population or open to the entire community. The recipient will be selected based on overall impact of the program and its role in exposing students to new topics, ideas or practices. Organization technique, implementation, and collaborative nature of the program will also be taken into consideration in choosing the recipient of this award.

Outstanding Entertainment Program

Presented to the organization that hosted a program that provided social opportunities, community building and fun for all participants. The program could have been targeted to a particular St. Edward's population or open to the entire community. The recipient will be selected based on overall impact of the program and its role in bringing together the university community. Organization technique, implementation, and collaborative nature of the program will also be taken into consideration in choosing the recipient of this award.

Outstanding Event/Program of the Year

Presented to the organization that has demonstrated a commitment to student involvement and engagement through an event or program. This event/program could before the purpose of raising awareness, supporting a cause or initiative, creating community among students, faculty, or staff, etc. This program/event should have had an effect of which you are proud and feel made an impact of some sort on the audience that participated.

Individual Awards include:

Student Leader of the Year

Presented to students who exhibit exemplary leadership skills throughout their organization and the campus community. The criteria for selection include quality of leadership, mutual respect among peers, dedication to the improvement of the organization and/or campus life. Students must be in good standing with the university.

Emerging Leader of the Year

Presented to the freshman or sophomore students who have shown great leadership potential within their student organization(s) and/or the campus community. The selection of the award will be based on student involvement in campus activities, leadership initiatives, school pride and overall contributions to their student organization or program. Students must be in good standing with the university.

Member of the Year Award

Every organization may select a member of the year. The Member of the Year from each organization will be recognized, and will not compete with other organizations for this award.

Committed to the Cause Award

This award recognizes a student who has made significant contributions to a student organization or the St. Edward's community, without necessarily holding a leadership position within an organization. The individual will be selected based on the contributions to the organization and/or the campus community. This student must be in good standing with the university.

Holy Cross Heritage Award

This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the Holy Cross Heritage of the St. Edward's community. The individual will be selected based on the contributions to the organization and/or the campus community. This student must be in good standing with the university.

Advisor of the Year

Presented to the advisor of a recognized campus organization who has gone above and beyond their responsibilities for the betterment of the organization and its student members. The advisor must demonstrate the following qualities: a strong working relationship with the organization's members; active participation in the organization's activities; being approachable and accessible to the organization; being attentive to the needs and issues of the organization and its members.

Friends of Student Life Award

Presented to the St. Edward's faculty, staff or departments who have shown great dedication to the well-being of students at St. Edward's University through their support of Student Life or student organization initiatives. Depending on the nomination quantity and appropriateness, more than one award may be given.
