Advising
New College and graduate advisors provide advising support through regular contact with their advisees. Advisors help students develop plans of study appropriate for their educational goals, make certain that all degree plan requirements are met, ensure that students understand their degree plans, assist students in course selection, and help students formulate graduation plans.
They also refer students to other campus offices for assistance in academic, personal, and career counseling, academic skills development, and financial aid.
Students are assigned to an academic advisor and must meet with him/her upon admission to the university. Meetings with an advisor are designed to provide students with the information needed for a successful academic career.
Contact your advisor if you:
- have questions about majors, minors, certificate programs.
- want to plan a schedule for the next semester or create an academic plan for your major.
- have questions about the registration process.
- are preparing to register for the next semester. New students must meet with an advisor to be cleared for registration.
- have questions about anything on campus from "How to drop or add classes" to "Where can I get career information?"
Each student has different needs and situations. Thus, advisors meet with students on an appointment basis in order to make certain that each student receives the individualized attention he/she deserves.
