The Department of Biology at St. Edward's University offers B.A. and B.S. degrees.

The B.A. degree is intended to provide the student with a solid foundation in biology, while affording more latitude in the choice of general electives. This is particularly helpful for students who are pursuing a double major, a biology education certification, or admission to certain professional schools.

There are two tracks within the Biology B.S. degrees – the Health Professions Track and the Graduate School Track. The Health Professions Track is designed for students who intend to pursue further education and a career in the health professions, including medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, physical therapy etc. The degree requirements include the prerequisites for most professional schools. The Graduate School track is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in research, giving students a strong background in the field as well as research experience

The department also offers a B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS). The Clinical Laboratory Science degree prepares students to be health care detectives investigating the cause of infectious disease, cancer or other health status of the patient. This degree involves a minimum of six semesters of course work at St. Edward’s University and, upon acceptance, one year of clinical training at an affiliated CLS program (currently Austin State Hospital). The course work spans such disciplines as microbiology, hematology, immunology, clinical chemistry and molecular biology. Upon graduation students are prepared for hospital work, laboratory research, graduate or other professional schools.
