Welcome to the St. Edward's University School of Natural Sciences’ web site. We hope you will take the time to investigate the pages within and learn what each department in the Natural Sciences has to offer. While exploring this site, you can meet the faculty, tour the building, and view the instrumentation housed within John Brooks Williams North. By visiting the departmental sites, you can learn more about the vast opportunities awaiting graduates from the School of Natural Sciences.
The School of Natural Sciences supports the Mission of St. Edward’s University by providing you with excellence in teaching within the classroom, cutting edge research and scholarship with faculty, opportunities to participate constructively in the social and educational environment, and support for your pedagogical and moral growth.
The culminating experience for a major within the School of Natural Sciences is Senior Seminar where you will present your own research to faculty, students, and guests of the community. The Senior Seminar builds upon the entirety of your work at St. Edward’s and ties together all of your learning experiences (academic, social, moral) in a final project. You will have the opportunity to present your research project on campus at the Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE), and at regional and national professional meetings.
When you enter the School of Natural Sciences, you become part of a learning community built upon the Holy Cross heritage which promotes an understanding of the human person and the world. A science degree will prepare you for careers in a plethora of areas, including industry, medicine, research, and academia. In collaboration with the School of Education, we also offer degree programs in teacher certification.
In our community, you will find support and guidance as you reach the highest goals of your education, while becoming a true member of our “family.” As a student within the Natural Sciences, you will have the opportunity for casual community interactions such as participating in a study group or a school club, mingling with others at School social events, and having a true dialogue with faculty on a myriad of topics. These extracurricular activities serve to enhance the already strong classroom atmosphere and research opportunities in which you will participate.
