Director, Fr. Peter Walsh, CSC
St. Edward's University was pleased to welcome Fr. Peter Walsh as Director of Campus Ministry in the Fall of 2012. Fr. Peter came to St. Edward's from St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Viera, Florida, where he served as parochial vicar for one year. Prior to his time in Florida he spent five years in campus ministry at Yale University, serving as assistant chaplain at Saint Thomas More, the Catholic Chapel and Center at Yale.
Since his ordination in 1989, Fr. Peter has developed numerous social and spiritual programs focused on young adult ministry. In Florida, he opened a local chapter of Theology on Tap, and at Yale he explored spirituality with undergraduate student athletes in a program called Cathletes. With other chaplains at Yale he worked with the Muslim Student Association and the Slifka Center for Jewish Life on programs promoting interreligious dialogue. In addition, Fr. Peter led Alternative Spring Break trips to Biloxi, MS where students worked with disaster relief following Katrina and to Lima, Peru.
Fr. Peter was born in Boston and remains a faithful Red Sox fan. After graduating from Stonehill College in Massachusetts with a BA in English, he entered the Congregation of Holy Cross. He attended seminary at the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated with an M.Div. He also has a master's degree from Boston College in English literature with a concentration in Irish poetry and often brings insights from literature into his preaching. Fr. Peter enjoys hiking, reading, independent films and all kinds of music.
