Dr. Elisa Díaz-Martínez, Director
Dr. Elisa Díaz-Martínez joined St. Edward’s University as the new director of the Kozmetsky Center of Excellence in Global Finance on Sept. 1, 2009. She holds a PhD in Social Sciences from Oxford University and the Juan March Institute in Madrid, Spain, and an MA from the Juan March Institute. Her areas of research and specialization focus on social inequalities, including health and education inequalities, and design and evaluation of public policies, particularly related to economic growth and sustainable development. Díaz-Martínez has also published internationally with journal articles and research and conference papers.
Prior to St. Edward’s, she spent five years as senior adviser on the Economic Bureau of the Spanish Prime Minister. In this role, Díaz-Martínez was responsible for advising the prime minister on policies related to economic growth and sustainable development such as social policy, health care, education and research and development.
She has worked as a research fellow at University College London and taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Oxford. Díaz-Martínez has served as a member of scientific committees at various academic institutions and think tanks, including Laboratorio Fundación Alternativas in Madrid. She has also reviewed articles for publications, such as Public Health, along with serving on the executive boards of SEPES, the Spanish public firm that manages state-owned land, and EFE, the leading Spanish language news agency.
