International Education Week was held at St. Edward’s University during the week of October 24 -28.    The festivities began on Monday with an International Study Abroad Showcase highlighting   the 2012 summer programs. The week’s kickoff event was held in Moody Hall with music, dancing and food from different countries.  Global programs from the School of Business, Campus Ministry, and students involved in the leadership program in Costa Rica were in attendance. Evening events included a documentary filmed by students in Professor Chris Flynn’s class in Angers, France and dancing from Far East Movements.

Tuesday evening, past and present students from study abroad programs shared their adventure and how the experiences transformed their lives with future students.  The audience was mesmerized as they viewed entries from the photography contest.  Photos were submitted from Study Abroad Participants and the Contest winners were: 1st place, Beatriz Posada, 2nd place, Mario Morales, 3rd place, Kate Murray.

The concert at the Canyon on Wednesday was extremely popular.  Zenzille, a band on tour from France, made a special appearance on our campus.  Students had the opportunity to enjoy musicians who sang in both French and English.  It was incredible. St. Edward’s is truly a global university!

Thursday, students from the College Assistance Migrant Program invited participants to help construct the alter for their annual Day of the Dead Celebration.    This event, also named Dia de los Muertos, is a Mexican tradition which commemorates the life of loved ones who have passed.

On Friday, students who wanted to get a head start on their study abroad process had their passport pictures taken by  Erick Leighton, owner of Just Passports in Austin.  When you need to submit your passport application, Just Passports can process it for you.

International Week at St. Edward’s was an incredible event that left everlasting memories for attendees.  Universities from around the world will celebrate International Education in 2012 from November 12 – 16.  For more information go to: http://iew.state.gov/
