Morris Stevens, Jr.

Dr. Stevens received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Texas at San Antonio.  He completed the Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001.

Morris is currently Professor and Director of the Division of Music at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.  Prior, he was head choral director at Westwood High School in Round Rock, Texas for 19 years where he helped develop the Fine Arts Academy.  Previously, taught for 10 years at McCallum High School in Austin, Texas and 4 years at John Jay High School in San Antonio, Texas.  From 1993-96 he conducted the University of Texas Longhorn Singers.   He very much enjoys the collaborative writing process with his good friend Stan McGill.  They have published four books which have become the leading texts for teaching musical literacy.

Morris often serves as an adjudicator and clinician for choral contests and festivals across the country and is proud to be the Associate Music Minister at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Austin where he has served for the past 21 years.  Under his leadership, a New Music Commissioning Project at McCallum, Westwood and St. Edward’s has resulted in the commissioning and premiere performances of 19 choral works.

Morris and his wife Polly are the proud parents of Sarah, Patrick and Rebekah.

Joey Colarusso

Joey received both his Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance and Master of Music in Jazz Studies degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He studied classical saxophone with Harvey Pittel and jazz saxophone with Richard Lawn. He has most recently performed and/or recorded with Natalie Cole, jazz legend Carmen Bradford, as well other great musicians, such as: Diahann Carroll and Maureen McGovern, the Nova Saxophone Quartet, Austin Symphony, Austin Lyric Opera, Michael Feinstein, Kenny Rogers, Dick Dale, Olivia Newton John, Julie Budd, Aretha Franklin, Frankie Valli, The Temptations, Manhattan Transfer, Frank Sinatra Jr., Tommy Tune, The Guy Lombardo Orchestra, Asleep at the Wheel, Dale Watson, Charlie Sexton, Bernadette Peters, Donald Sinta, Grupo Fantasma, Rick Treviño, Little Joe y la Familia, Monster Big Band, The Tony Campise Big Band, and The United States Air Education Training and Command Band (Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio). Mr. Colarusso also doubles on flute, clarinet, and trumpet in community theatre pit orchestras and recording sessions. He taught Applied Saxophone and Clarinet at Prairie View A&M University for five years. Currently Joey is the Coordinator of Instrumental Music at St. Edward's University. He directs the St. Edward’s University Jazz Ensembles and the SEU Mariachi Ensemble.

Brother Gerald Muller, Assistant Professor, has taught at St. Edward’s University for thirty-three years. He has been in the classroom for sixty-one years: twenty-seven as a high school teacher/band director and the rest as a teacher, conductor and mentor at SEU. He has sung operas with Beverly Sills and Richard Tucker, performed Bach under the baton of Robert Shaw and studied conducting with Shaw, Rilling and Sir David Willcocks. He now fronts Brother Muller and His Brothers, a rock and roll band that rocks big time.
