Darin Layne began performing and composing on the piano at age four. After playing the cello in New England youth symphonies, he studied alto sax performing jazz in Boston before moving to Texas. At age fourteen he decided to concentrate on guitar, later graduating from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston and earning a degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of North Texas. He moved to Austin in 1996.

An experienced performer, producer and composer, Darin has played thousands of shows across the U.S. and Europe both as leader and sideman. His live performance and musical diversity evoke passion and enthusiasm in audiences. Strong compositions are fused with elements of many genres representing a unique approach based on melody. He has been featured in Guitar Player magazine and Jazz Times Magazine as well as at AllAboutJazz.com.

Darin’s music has been widely featured in film, television and radio both on its own and as soundtrack music. His music was featured most recently in the live episode of Public Radio International’s syndicated ``This American Life’’ with Ira Glass, the radio program “Echoes” with John Dilberto, “Horizontes” with his project The Crying Monkeys, and the television series “American Made” on CNBC. Darin’s music is used in music production for numerous film projects and festivals. He is bandleader for his projects Left of Sunday Afternoon, The Darin Layne Trio and The Crying Monkeys. Darin teaches guitar at St. Edwards University and Austin Community College in addition to maintaining a private studio.
