This week, the Communication Department is launching a new series on this blog: a segment devoted to news from our alumni. Our department serves almost 300 majors and with that many students it can be difficult to keep up with our alumni all over the world. Recently, we checked in with some of them and asked them to tell us what they are up to these days.
Our first segment features Erica Zamora, who received her B.A. in Communication last May and who is currently working on a graduate degree at New York University. So Erica, what have you been up to?
After all of my involvement at St. Edward's, I fell in love with the idea that I could work with students and colleges as a career. I decided to get my MA in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University.

As part of my program, I work part-time in the NYU Center for Student Activities, Leadership and Service as a Graduate Assistant where advise over 30 student clubs, co-advise the Civic Team program, and have recently been tasked with creating a unified social media presence for our office (thanks to my classes with Corinne!).
This year, I had the pleasure of accompanying students on an international service trip to Chiangmai, Thailand and it was definitely an adventure! Additionally, I am a research assistant in the Steinhardt Institute for Higher Education Policy and Research as well as the Treasurer for the NYU Association of Student Affairs professionals. It sounds like a lot, but I still make time to explore the streets of New York City and (attempt to) find authentic Tex-Mex food!
