Major and Minor Requirements

The Philosophy program offers a broad background in the history of philosophy and in the traditional areas of philosophical inquiry, (e.g. logic, ethics, epistemology, political theory, and religion). Emphasis is placed on an informed and critical reading of classic texts in philosophy and upon thoughtful consideration of their applicability to contemporary problems and choices. Upper-division courses allow for some specialization and independent research in the works of major philosophers.

Students majoring in Philosophy at St. Edward's take a total of 42 hours within their major. Philosophy majors also complete the University's General Education requirements and graduate with a minimum of 120 hours. Philosophy majors at St. Edward's graduate with a Bachelor of Arts.
