Retirement Plan

An important part of the St. Edward’s benefits program is helping you prepare for a financially secure retirement. Three retirement plans are offered:

  • Regular Retirement Plan
  • Supplemental Retirement Plan
  • Supplemental Retirement Plan Roth Option

Regular Retirement Plan: All benefits-eligible employees 21 years of age and older will be enrolled in the Regular Retirement Plan after one year of regular service, unless they opt out. Benefits-eligible employees with less than one year of regular service who were most recently employed by an institution of higher education may be eligible for prior service credit in order to meet the one year benefits-eligibility criteria for enrollment into the Regular Retirement Plan.  Please review the Regular Retirement Plan Prior Service Credit eligibility requirements.

Participation in the Regular Retirement Plan requires employees to contribute 5% of their salary on a before-tax basis each pay period. The university will provide a 7% contribution.

Supplemental Retirement Plan: All employees are eligible to participate in the St. Edward’s University Supplemental Retirement Plan.  Employees contribute a specified dollar amount of their choosing on a before-tax basis each pay period. Participants may change their contribution amount or discontinue salary reductions any time during the Plan Year by completing the appropriate paperwork.

Supplemental Retirement Plan Roth Option: All employees are eligible to participate in the St. Edward’s University Supplemental Retirement Plan Roth Option.  Employees contribute a specified dollar amount of their choosing on an after-tax basis each pay period. Participants may change their contribution amount or discontinue salary reductions any time during the Plan Year by completing the appropriate paperwork.

To enroll in or make changes to any of these retirement plans, complete the Salary Reduction Agreement form, found here. Initial participation also requires the employee to complete the enrollment steps required by the retirement vendor.
