Health Insurance

Health Insurance is not required in order to be treated at the Health & Counseling Center.

  • All registered students are required to have a hospitalization, illness and accident insurance policy that is accepted in the Austin area. Health insurance coverage may be provided by the student's family or employer, otherwise, students must enroll in the Student Health Insurance Program offered by the University. St Edward's recommends that all international students, accompanying spouse and dependents have $50,000 coverage, repatriation and medical evacuation benefits. (International students with J visas are required to have this coverage.)
  • Students are responible for knowing the terms of their own insurance policies, especially which providers are part of their "provider network" list. If a student is treated at an off-campus medical facility, often full or partial fees must be paid at the time of service. If the facility does not accept the university's student health insurance, the student must pay at the time of service and then submit the bill to the insurance company for partial or full reimbursement. A claim form often must be sent to the insurance company along with a bill for reimbursement.

Health Services uses your current insurance information to send to outside facilities (i.e. CPL labs, ARA imaging) for outside facilities billing purposes. St. Edward's University Health & Counseling Center does not do third party billing.

The Student Health Insurance program is available to all registered students taking six (6) or more credit hours. Students may enroll in the program through their EDweb account (Billing Options) when they register for classes. Premiums are billed with the students tuition. Students may choose to change this option up until the twelth (12th) class day. After the twelth (12th) class day, students must enroll directly through the insurance company,
Academic Health Plans 1.888.308.7320.
Although Academic Health Plans does not provide dental or vision insurance coverage, students enrolled in the program have access to included discount programs through www.AHPPlus.com.
