The Most Reverend John McCarthy Lecture Series on the Catholic Church in the 21st Century

The series honors the Most Reverend John McCarthy, who led the Diocese of Austin from 1985 to 2001, and to underscore the university’s commitment to its Catholic roots and Holy Cross heritage. Held on campus at Jones Auditorium in the Robert and Pearle Ragsdale Center by the Center for Ethics and Leadership every spring and fall, the McCarthy Lecture Series brings Catholic religious and lay experts from around the country to discuss issues facing the Catholic Church in the 21st century. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Virtual Virtues: Creating a Community of Integrity in an Online Course
By: Lori McNabb and Alicia Olmstead, 2008 APPE Conference

As students in the St. Edward's University Master of Science in Organizational Leadership & Ethics program, Alicia Olmstead and Lori McNabb conducted research about academic integrity in on-line teaching fora and prepared these suggestions for teaching classes on-line. After presenting their work at the 2008 Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE) conference in San Antonio, they again presented their work to peers on campus in the fall of 2008. They were gracious enough to share these suggestions with the Center and we hope you find them helpful.

Making our Vocation and Avocation One:
Religion and Education at St. Edward's University

What is the relationship between religion and education at St. Edward's University?

In 2000 and 2002, the Center for Ethics and Leadership obtained grants from the Rhodes Consultation to conduct a series of organized faculty discussions and campus lectures on this topic. The Rhodes Consultation is a nationwide program funded by the Lilly Endowment to encourage a dialogue on the role of religion in higher education by faculties at Christian colleges and universities.
