Evaluation

The Southwest Educational Development Laboratory's Evaluation Services Unit (SEDL/ES) provided external evaluation services to the Teacher Pipeline from 2004-2006 as part of a Houston Endowment grant. In the first year, SEDL/ES developed an extensive multi-year evaluation plan. A representative of the SEDL/ES evaluation team attended monthly meetings of the collaborative and facilitated group and individual meetings with project partners.
During year two of the grant, SEDL/ES consulted with Pipeline partners to design a comprehensive student database. A Teacher Pipeline Exit Survey was developed and administered to all Teacher Pipeline candidates who left the program before completion. Focus groups were conducted and surveys were administered to those enrolled in the program to determine the barriers that participants encountered, suggestions for improving the program, and descriptions of positive changes that candidates attributed to their participation in the program. Evaluators also designed and administered a survey to Teacher Pipeline partners to assess collaborative governance and other variables relevant to the operation and implementation of project activities. In addition, SEDL/ES continued to attend monthly meetings and present evaluation findings.
