Free Training on Software, Web and Computer Skills

Instructional Technology’s Computer Training staff provides free computer training to currently enrolled SEU students, faculty, and staff. Our trainings offered include: workshops, class training for faculty, one-on-one instruction, new employee training, and department training. We offer instruction adaptable to students, faculty, and staff with many learning needs and styles. The trainings we offer cover most of the university’s supported software and a variety of social media services. In these workshops we provide documentation available in print and online format as well as online resources curated our staff. These trainings usually last between 30 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the content and are offered monthly or by request, throughout weekdays, early evenings, and sometimes on Saturdays in the Moody Hall 309 Computer Training Room on the main SEU campus.   Announcing New Computer Video Tutorials on YouTube

Instructional Technology is launching our new YouTube channel, just in time for the Fall semester. This YouTube channel hosts over 80 short video tutorials and counting, covering a wide variety of topics on Blackboard, email, Microsoft Office and more. These straightforward videos answer some of the most common software questions on campus, and are featured throughout the pages of the Computer Help Think site. Services We Offer:

Class Training for Faculty

The Computer Training staff can conduct a session for your classroom on any supported software program. We will work with you on adjusting our workshops to fit your curriculum. Please fill out our Class Training for Faculty Form to schedule a training session.

One-on-One Instruction

If you are working on a time-sensitive project and are unable to attend any of our monthly scheduled workshops and would like special instruction, we can arrange a personal appointment with one of our trainers. Please fill out our One-on-One Request Form to sign-up for an appointment.

Faculty Consultations

Instructional Technology offers in-depth Instructional Design services for faculty and provides one-on-one faculty consultations. They work with faculty to design their courses with the appropriate technologies to address the desired learning goals and accurate assessment. They train faculty on the uses of Blackboard, blogs, wikis, digital audio/video, streaming services, podcasting and online classroom environments. They also provide assistance with research design along with statistical set-up and analysis.

New Employee Training

We acquaint new university employees with a 60-minute introduction to campus technology services. This usually includes an introduction to Outlook, Zimbra, EdShare, EdWeb and by request CARS/Jenzabar CX. The head of your department can schedule an appointment by filling out the New Employee Training Form. Please fill out the form at least 3 days prior to the new employee’s start date. The new employee must have their admin account created and available to use before the training session.

Department Training

We can keep your staff up to speed with new technology, and we will work with you to fit our sessions to your department needs. Please fill out the Department Training Request Form to schedule a training session for your department. Examples of previous department trainings include: and overview of Microsoft Office 2010 and an introduction on how to edit Think websites.

I.T. Circuit

The I.T. Circuit Program allows for students, faculty, and staff to gain a certificate after attending a series of workshops to help with their personal or professional development. Tracks include: Microsoft Office Essentials, Web Essentials, Digital Graphic Essentials, and two new tracks: Social Media Essentials and Short Video Production Essentials. I.T. Innovation Creation Lounge (MH 309)

The I.T. Training staff will be scheduling hours available to students, faculty, and staff, in our I.T. Innovation Creation Lounge in which we will offer:

• In-Person help from an I.T. Trainer
• Space to work on projects in a dedicated learning area
• Example projects we provide help on include:
  • Websites
  • Posters
  • Spreadsheets
  • Photo Manipulation

Computer Competency

All Undergraduate and New College students who enter St. Edward's University are required to satisfy the Computer Competency Requirement. Students should satisfy this competency requirement as soon as possible; basic computer skills will be needed for many classes at St. Edward's University. Students must complete the Computer Competency Requirement PRIOR to registering for CULF 2321 or HONS 2321, and for Transfer students PRIOR to registering for CULF 3330 or HONS 3375. This requirement can be satisfied by successfully completing the five Computer Competency module web-based tests and completing the required portfolio assignments. Screencasting: Video Tutorials

A screencast is a video capture of any action taken from a screen like a computer desktop, usually with voice narration. Screencasts are often instructional in nature, allowing the creator to explain how to use a software program like a Photoshop tutorial on Lynda.com, or to demonstrate how to solve math problems on a digital "whiteboard" like Khan Academy. Our Training staff can assist your Office with planning your screencast project, developing a production process, coaching on how to prepare scripts, and technical training on screencasting software. Training staff may also offer production assistance on eligible University projects.
