Creating System-wide Aliases
For administrative accounts only!
User-defined, system-wide aliases are created through the Jenzabar-CX/CARS database system which is only available to users with an admin account. You must have access to the CARS database in order to create a system-wide alias. The creator of the alias is responsible for its maintenance and upkeep.
System-wide aliases are created and updated on the Jenzabar-CX/CARS system. You can use the aliases from any email application.
Use system-wide aliases by typing in the email address ulist.aliasname@stedwards.edu.
To Access the System Wide Alias Menu
- Use SecureCRT or SecureCRT and QuickMate to log into admin.stedwards.edu.
- In the CARS database, press Shift-U (or click on U in QuickMate) for the Utility Menu.
- At the Utility Menu, select Directories & E-Mail.
- At the Directories & E-Mail Menu, select System Wide Alias.
- Press the PF1 key to continue.
Reminder:
- For Macintosh, use the "Clear" key on the keypad for PF1
- For PC users, use the F1 key for PF1
To Add an Alias
- Press a for Add.
- Fill in the alias name.
- Fill in the description.
- Fill in the Begin Date or accept default of today's date.
- Fill in the End Date or accept default of one year from today.
- Press ! to access the editor to type in the address list.
- Type in addresses one per line.
- Exit from editor in the usual manner. (Control X to exit from Pico)
- Press PF1 to complete the add.
- Press e to exit.
- Press <Return> to go back to the "Directories & E-Mail" menu.
To Update an Alias
(Only the creator of the alias can update it!)
- Press q for Query.
- Type in the information necessary to find the alias you wish to update.
- Press PF1 to continue.
- When you have the alias on your screen, press u for Update.
- To update the address list, move your cursor to the Address List box and press ! to go into the editor.
- Update the list and exit the editor as usual.
- Press PF1 to complete the update.
- Press e to exit.
- Press <Return> to go back to the "Directories & E-Mail" menu.
