Backing up Bookmarks and Favorites on Windows

How to Back Up Firefox Bookmarks:

  1. Go to Bookmarks on the top menu bar and selct Organize Bookmarks.

  2. Click on the button for Import and Backup and select Backup.

  3. You may browse to the location you wish to save your backup to and click save.

How to Back Up Chrome Bookmarks:

  1. Click on the Wrench icon

     
  2. Select Bookmark Manager
     
  3. Click on Organize
     
  4. Select Export Bookmarks...

     
  5. You may browse to the location you wish to save your backup to and click save.
     
  6. Click Save

How to Back Up Internet Explorer Favorites:

  1. Click on the Favorites button on the left-hand side of your browser bar.

  2. Click on the down arrow on the right of "Add to Favorites".

  3. Click on Import and Export.

  4. Select Export to a file and click Next.

  5. Select Favorites and click Next.

  6. Leave favorites highlighted at the top and click Next.

  7. You may browse to a location of your choice to save your favorites backup or leave the default location in your documents folder. Click on Export.

 Alternative Method by Copying Favorites Folder Directly:

Windows XP:

  1. Open My Computer and select the C: drive (Hard Drive)

  2. On the C: drive, locate the folder titled Documents and Settings and double-click on it to open it.

  3. Double-click on the folder with your username (you may be using the general "transfer" account).

  4. Right click on Favorites and select Copy.

  5. Open the EdShare folder or drive (or external hard drive / USB drive) to which you are backing up your documents: Click on the Start menu and select My Computer. Your EdShare personal folder should be listed as 'username' on 'Steds File Share (edShare) (S:). Double click on the drive to open it. If you are backing up to an external drive, double click into that drive.

  6. Right click and select Paste. This will save your Favorites to the drive (EdShare or external drive).

Windows 7, Vista:

  1. Go to Start > Computer and select the C: drive (Hard Drive)

  2. On the C: drive, locate the folder titled Users and double-click on it to open it.

  3. Double-click on the folder with your username (you may be using the general "transfer" account).

  4. Right click on Favorites and select copy.

  5. Open the EdShare folder or drive (or external hard drive / USB drive) to which you are backing up your documents: Click on the Start menu and select  Computer. Your EdShare personal folder should be listed as 'username' on 'Steds File Share (edShare) (S:). Double click on the drive to open it. If you are backing up to an external drive, double click into that drive.

  6. Right click and select Paste. This will save your Favorites to the drive (EdShare or external drive).
