The Washington Center

Intern & Study in Washington D.C.

Scope of Program

Career Services works with The Washington Center Program in the fall, spring and summer semesters to arrange internships, academic courses and housing in Washington D.C.

Requirements of Program

Selected students work with The Washington Center to secure an internship in the Greater District of Columbia area.  During the program, students complete an internship for 4.5 days and participate in a leadership program with other students for one afternoon per week.  Students also take one academic course at The Washington Center.

All students at St. Edward's University must be enrolled in six hours of course credit at St. Edward's University while participating.  This includes the internship course in their major and a special topics/independent research course that may correlate with the course they are taking at The Washington Center. Students will work with the Andrew Harper, Internship Coordinator, and their academic advisor to make these arrangements.

Cost of Program

Students can review the cost of The Washington Program on their website.  Students will consult with the Student Financial Services Office to determine if any financial aid they are using for their tuition at St. Edward's, can be applied to the program fee at The Washington Center.  Students will be responsible for paying their room and board costs.

Information Sessions

A representative from The Washington Center will visit campus on Thursday, October 27 and hold an information session at 6:30 p.m. in Fleck Hall 315.

Application Arrangements

To participate in this program, students must receive approval from Andrew Harper, Employer Relations Manager in Career Services.  This approval is granted after students have scheduled an appointment and had their application, essay and resume reviewed.  Students that would like to participate in Summer 2012 should schedule an appointment with Andrew Harper in Career Services by Wednesday, February 8.  Call 512.448.8530 to schedule an appointment.
