What is The St. Edward’s Fund?

The St. Edward’s Fund is a financial resource the university depends on, which is funded each year by philanthropic gifts. Each year, gifts to The St. Edward’s fund total more than $1 million.

Gifts to The St. Edward’s Fund support students by minimizing the tuition burden on them and their families. Once the university meets its commitment to student financial aid, our tuition revenue represents just 85% of our total annual expenses. To make up the difference, we rely on gifts to The St. Edward’s Fund. In this way, The St. Edward’s Fund ensures we may continue to offer generous student financial aid while also providing students with the distinctive Holy Cross education that changes lives.

Where does my gift go? Will it make a difference?

A gift to The St. Edward’s Fund is the best way to provide scholarship support for our neediest students. About three in four traditional undergraduates receive scholarships and grants every year in order to finance their education and minimize the burden of student debt. The St. Edward’s Fund provides the university with a flexible, annual resource to award student financial aid as it becomes available throughout the academic year. Your support will make a difference no matter how much you are able to give! 

Why should I give?

Your contribution to The St. Edward’s Fund helps all students at St. Edward’s. The St. Edward’s Fund keeps classes small, provides scholarships that encourage diversity, supports faculty research, maintains and improves students’ living and learning environments and more.

Additionally, alumni gifts will help raise our alumni participation. Alumni participation is one element of the college ranking system used by U.S. News & World Report in its annual report of “America’s Best Colleges.” While many people define ‘participation’ in many different ways, U.S. News defines Alumni Participation as the percentage of undergraduate alumni who make a gift to the university. Therefore, a high Alumni Participation percentage influences St. Edward’s ranking among its institutional peers — giving your St. Edward’s degree more prestige and attracting the best students and faculty.
