Online Writing Lab (OWL)

  • What is it?

The Online Writing Lab (OWL) helps St. Edward’s University’s graduate and New College students become stronger writers and provides support during all stages of the writing process. The OWL provides three main services:

  • Paper Review Send us your paper via our online submission form, and within 48 to 72* hours we'll return your draft with our suggestions for improvement.
  • Writing Q&A Have a brief, specific question about writing, grammar, style, or documentation? Email us for a response within 24 to 48* hours.
  • Presentations and Resources OWL instructors are available to make in-class presentations on writing topics, and all of our online writing resources are available for student and faculty use.

‚Äč*These are typical response times. Our goal is not to exceed them, but in the event of unusually heavy volume, responses may take longer.

  • Who is it for?

The OWL paper review and writing Q&A services are for New College and graduate students only. However, our collection of resources is available for the entire St. Edward's community.

  • Where does it take place?

OWL services are mostly online. Paper reviews and writing Q&A occur exclusively online. While OWL instructors also hold workshops and give in-class presentations, all of our online resources are available online for student and faculty use.

  • When does it take place?

As an online service, scheduling is fairly flexible; simply submit your paper via our online submission form whenever you’re ready. Keep in mind, however, that response times typically range from 48 to 72 hours (and occasionally, in times of unusually heavy volume, may take longer than 72 hours), so it’s important to plan ahead.

  • How do I sign up?

No need to sign up – OWL services are available to all current New College and graduate students, and our collection of resources is available for the entire St. Edward's community.

  • How much does it cost?

OWL services are free to all currently enrolled New College and graduate students.
