The Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) is a degree chosen by students who are looking to explore a variety of disciplines as they earn their degree. You have always had the option to earn a “general” MLA. More recently, students have the opportunity to earn a concentration in an area such as Humanities, Social Sciences, or Global Issues. In response to student interest, we have added a new concentration in Social Justice.
This new concentration in Social Justice will allow you to choose from courses such as:
-
The Human Condition and the Quest for Freedom
-
Globalization and Identity
-
Global Perspectives on Terrorism
-
Peace with Justice Issues
-
Race, Class, and Gender
-
Mediation
-
International Human Rights and Social Justice
-
Human Rights in the Twenty-First Century
-
Psychology of Cultural Pluralism
-
Wealth and Poverty in Western Religion
Additionally, the MLA offers an internship course and encourages students to complete special projects of genuine significance to the promotion of social justice. Graduates will be more informed citizens and skilled advocates for human rights and social justice.
The St. Edward’s University mission and the values of the Congregation of the Holy Cross are affirmed through this new concentration, by calling students to confront the critical issues of society, to seek justice and peace, to recognize their responsibility to the world community, and to pursue a more just world.
You may be wondering what MLA alumni do with their degrees. We have alumni who have gone on to publish books, teach at a variety of institutions, earn doctoral degrees, help lead non-profits, work as professional writers, and much more.
